Is Our American Health Care System A Colossal Extortion Racket?

Our ‘system’ of health care has been cobbled together from the late, mostly agrarian, 19th century, through the amazing advances too numerous to list in the 20th century and on to our current ‘robbery in broad daylight’ reality that is twisting medicine into an omnipresent, alarming – offer you can’t refuse – money grab. Our Country is riding along on a path to financial ruin and a large part of that ruin is due to skyrocketing costs of everything ‘medical’ that have become standard operating procedure for us.

How much does a stethoscope cost ?   And how much does it actually cost to make one?

How much does a hospital bed cost?   And how much does it cost to make one?

How much does an X Ray machine cost? And how much does it cost to actually make one?

How much does a rescue vehicle cost? And how much does it cost to actually make one?

How much does a cotton ball cost? And how much does it cost to make one?

And where in the world are all of those medical equipment things made?

Don’t know the answers? Welcome to the club. It is a big club, and that is our problem. America is a prosperous nation. Prosperity makes possible comfortable, relaxed living – and a lazy attitude about health and our health care system. We are confounded by a complicated, overwhelming system situation because WE WILL NOT CONFRONT the massive problem that health care has become. People don’t need to bother with the dollars and cents facts of health care reality because – “the insurance pays for it” , or “the government pays for it” – but I am not going to pay a lot for it!

The people involved in medicine – all of them – have been pulled into the whirlpool of the health care money racket by those who work relentlessly to construct and control a wealth transfer monstrosity which most of us – just go along with. We the Patients have become pawns who are moved around on a Big Bucks game board. But most of us are mostly healthy most of the time and simply do not need to ‘just go along with’ Big Bucks anything.  Apathy is a health care issue that few want to admit to. Many of us are susceptible to commercial invitations to solve a health problem with incredible NEW XKQ! And NEW XKQ is usually INCREDIBLE, just like they say. We are contributing to the health care Problem by going along for the ride.

Health care is a unique social problem because EVERYONE must participate, and biology can get complicated. Illness, disease, and injury happen and people too often let themselves be ‘afraid’ of whatever is out there. It is a perfect situation for money racketeers to move in on and manipulate us for as much as they can get away with.

In this part of the website I want to contribute to that mental health habit – sanity – by sticking to the FACTS about costs. That includes the real actual costs of making the equipment, drugs, treatments, facilities, etc. People will be WAY better off if they are familiar with, knowledgeable about the NUMBERS involved in anything and everything medical. If people can be brought to understand that they are usually in a state of good health then they can establish a base for understanding and making wise decisions about health care issues that come up.

There is no magic fix to the colossal reality of medical treatment for 300 million people – who expect gold-plated medicine for whatever ails them. But Americans must have the financial realities shoved in their faces. We cannot go on with a common notion that somebody else pays for it! That is false and self-deceiving. We can certainly accomplish an informed citizenry who can master the health care leviathan. Conservative Principle #4 – People have vast, overwhelming capacity to learn, understand and create. We will help ourselves if we put some of that overwhelming capacity to work to make our health care reality a practical success. And a political party that intends to practice that success IN CONGRESS would help,  E A P.
