Is electric power production from windmills ridiculous, boring, dangerous, environmentally hazardous, or just plain stupid – or all of the above? This societal and cultural phenomenon is one of those ‘modern’ fantasies that motivates me to do this website. I simply cannot grasp how people – supposedly intelligent – can avoid the facts and numbers that shout – WINDMILLS ARE WORSE THAN USELESS for producing electric power for wide distribution.
Sources of information about the windmill ‘happening’ are easily available, reliably time-tested and UNexciting. The Energy Information Agency has everything people need to learn about electric power production, distribution and cost. For windmills, numbers about wind turbine size, rated capacity and capacity factor, efficiency, availability, and productivity potential for any period of time are well known. There are many SERIOUS problems with windmills , but the BIG ONE is – NO wind. When the air isn’t moving windmills are just plain worthless. People cannot RELY on electric power production from this method, SO we must have a RELIABLE back up source. And that is… don’t say it.
Windmills work best in a known range of wind velocity – approx. 30 to 50 miles per hour. If the wind is moving slower – or faster – the windmill will not perform at anything like optimum. Also, they produce power in varying amounts and at varying times. This makes it necessary for the REAL power production system to constantly adjust to put up with the small contributions that windmills provide. They may not be working when it is necessary for people to have that reliable power – freezing winter nights or sizzling summer days.
Windmills are an environmental nuisance. The hazardous material used for the giant blades must be scrapped when old or damaged. They kill thousands of birds, especially migrating birds, every year. Whatever happened to Rachel Carson and the Silent Spring tree huggers who were the Big Deal in ‘earth friendly’ environmental ‘justice’ groups back in the seventies. They have been relegated to the back seat of the eco-propaganda bus because – evil fossil fuels. Do people not see the sheer opinion pushing con game that is the true nature of the ‘green’ plague?
Windmills can make a limited contribution to our overall electric power supply but they will NEVER give us the PUNCH needed to operate heavy equipment, trains, large trucks, or cities. If you want to put up a windmill in your backyard to get a little power for your house, go right ahead but don’t tell everyone else that they have to join your moral fantasy. Windmills will not give us the constant, steady source of power that we MUST have for homes, hospitals, businesses, and anything that runs on electricity – which is everything. Our country is being hectored into kowtowing to a small group of people who are obsessed with windmills – I don’t know why – which has steered us onto a dead end road of government boosting of ‘winners’ – the windmill industry – while we the tax paying ‘losers’ supply the cash.
As years go by and reality intrudes into the daily public noise racket, I have begun to notice a faint sound approaching from a distance. It sounds like a Sanity Band playing a wisdom song that is cutting through the relentless noise machine of ‘green’ propaganda. I tell myself not to get my hopes up, but I AM getting my hopes up for a return of Respect for Knowledge – Conservative Principle #8. AND a respect for – Nuclear Power.
